No matter what industry an organisation operates in, or their size and composition, legal and best practice compliance is an essential part of any business operations. This process involves ensuring that all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices are being met and that business processes are subject to continuous improvement. We understand that in business, compliance requirements can be difficult to understand and achieve. The below questions are designed to scope the current health of compliance within your organisation, and prompt action where it may be needed.

If no, do not assume that your employees are not covered by an Award. Most employees are, and it is important that you are aware of the terms and conditions that govern their employment.
Are you aware of the 10 National Employment Standards (NES)? The standards cover employment for all employees in the national workplace relations system, regardless of the award, registered agreement or employment contract that applies. You must provide a copy of the Fair Work Statement to new employees. This is available for download via
Did you know you must give your employees a payslip every time you pay them? Even if: you pay wages in cash, the employee is on leave, or you pay an employee the same amount every week (eg. salaried employees).
Did you know you must keep time and wages records for 7 years?
It is important to ensure that you follow the policy that is in place to limit the risk of any legal action.
An effective grievance procedure provides employees with a mechanism to resolve issues of concern. The grievance procedure may also help employers correct issues before they become serious issues or result in litigation.
Successful change involves consultation and cooperation with all parties involved, including managers, employees and any employee representatives.
When terminating an employee it is important to ensure that you still follow your procedures, with regards to disciplinary action and ensure procedural fairness is provided to the employee.
